A robber who fled with cash from a village store is being hunted by police.

The raid happened at the Co-operative store in Dewhurst Terrace, Sunniside, Gateshead, at 9.50pm last night.

A man came into the store, threatened a female member of staff and demanded she hand over money.

He fled with a small quantity of cash, and although nobody was hurt, staff were left very shaken.

The robber was short, in his 20s, and wearing a dark grey hooded top, black jogging bottoms and a black scarf over his face.
