Ronnie Spector, Frank Turner and The Temperance Movement to play Mouth of the Tyne Festival
Three headline shows have been unveiled by the organisers of this year's Mouth of the Tyne Festival.
Ronnie Spector will kick off the festival with her show Ronnie Spector Sings the Fabulous Ronettes at the Playhouse in Whitley Bay on Friday, June 17.
The "original bad girl of rock 'n' roll" and her American band will perform all the Ronettes hits – Be My Baby, Baby I Love You, Do I Love You, Walking in the Rain, and more – as well as songs originally recorded by the group that became successful for other artists, such as I Can Hear Music (Beach Boys) and Chapel of Love (Dixie Cups).
Tickets for the show are £32.50 and £29.50.
The Temperance Movement will take to the Playhouse stage on Thursday, July 7.
Based in London and Glasgow, the five-piece band features frontman Phil Campbell, bassist Nick Fyffe, guitarists Paul Sayer and Matt White, and drummer Damon Wilson.
Introduced to the world by their 2012 EP Pride, their self-titled debut album two years later announced the arrival of a major rock band.
Their latest album, White Bear, was released in January, and is a big step forward. Tickets for their show are £16.50.
Finally, on Saturday, July 9, the Playhouse will welcome the return of folk=punk singer Frank Turner and his band The Sleeping Souls to the venue.
Their previous Mouth of the Tyne show, back in 2011, was a sell-out, and this one is sure to follow suit, with tickets priced at £26.
His latest album, Positive Songs For Negative People, reached No 2 when it was released last August.
Festival Director, Steve Bishop of North Tyneside Council, said: “We are thrilled to announce yet more exciting artists for the festival and further expand the diverse range of shows on offer.
"The Playhouse Whitley Bay shows offer a great opportunity to see popular artists in a more intimate setting.”
The Playhouse shows compliment a stellar line-up of Bryan Ferry, Will Young and James Bay, who will be performing at the open-air venue at Tynemouth Priory from July 7 to 9.
Tickets will go on sale online at www.playhousewhitleybay.co.uk at 9am on Friday, April 15.
They will be available via the booking hotline 0844 248 1588 or in person from the Box Office from 10am.
