Rowing boat towed back to shore after struggling near River Tyne pier

The owner of a rowing boat was offered safety advice after getting into difficulty off the pier in South Shields.

The South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade (SSVLB) were called out to help the Tynemouth RNLI's inshore lifeboat, which had been sent to tow the small rowing boat to Corporation Quay after a report it was struggling near to the South Pier.

A spokesman for the SSVLB said: "The team assisted with landing the craft and offered safety advice.

"Remember for all Coastal emergencies dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard."

The call out happened yesterday at 11.42am.
