A trio of 90s popstars will be bringing the party to the region in November.
S Club Party's Bradley, Jo and Tina will hit South Shields next month to switch on the town's festive lights.
They will join Coun Richard Porthouse, mayor of South Tyneside, and Santa Claus at the junction of King Street and Ocean Road to help the town get Christmas ready.
The mayor said: “This year we have a cracking line-up for the South Shields light switch on, which is always one of the highlights of the festive season. I’m looking forward to having Bradley, Jo and Tina join me onstage to help with the countdown to the town centre’s illuminations.
"I'm sure the people of South Shields will give S Club Party a warm welcome."
If you want to Reach for the Stars with S Club, head down to the event to hear some live versions of the group's iconic hits. Local singer Abi Garrido, who appeared on The X-Factor, will also perform.
The festive entertainment, including street entertainers from balloon modellers to stilt walkers, gets underway at 3.30pm on November 21, with the official switch on starting at 4.30pm.
Other festive highlights across South Tyneside include glittering Christmas switch on events in Jarrow’s Grange Road on November 20 and Fountain Park in Hebburn on November 23. Both events will run from 4pm until 5pm.
A Christmas fair will also be held at Haven Point, South Shields, on November 29 and 30. If you fancy a spot of shopping, you can pick up food, crafts, jewellery and even Christmas decorations.
Coun Alan Kerr, deputy leader of South Tyneside Council, said: “Our spectacular light switch-on events in South Shields, Hebburn and Jarrow, are wonderful family-friendly events that attract thousands of people of all ages as we turn the borough into a Christmas wonderland.
"The colourful displays always look fantastic and will bring some festive cheer to all those who live and visit South Tyneside this Christmas."
Due to ongoing regeneration work in the Market Place, this year’s camel parade will follow a new route. The Three Wise Men will lead a procession down the newly transformed Ocean Road along to Haven Point on December 4, accompanied by an assortment of family-friendly entertainment.
The event will end on a high, once the camels have gone, with a sensational firework display finale at Haven Point.
St Hilda’s Church Gardens, in South Shields, will once again be home to a Wonderful Christmas Wonderland lighting display, starting on December 5, with its illuminated reindeer and sleigh, penguins, polar bears and shimmering trees.
