Before looking at incomings for the new season, Allardyce also has several players on the books with uncertain futures.

The loan deals of Yann M'Vila, DeAndre Yedlin, Dame N'Doye and Ola Toivonen all reach a conclusion at the end of the season, while veteran Wes Brown is out-of-contract and unlikely to get a new deal.

The likes of Jeremain Lens and Seb Larsson also face uncertain futures after struggling to secure a starting spot.

Sunderland's squad are not due to return to training until Saturday, but Allardyce will hold talks with those affected players about their futures, before Sunday's trip to Vicarage Road.

Allardyce added: "I will have conversations before the Watford game.

"I don’t think there’s any point in leaving players hanging.

"That’s one of the jobs I have to get through pretty quickly. It is worth talking to them if we are taking them forward with us in the next couple of days.

"What are we doing with those we already have? Whether they are on loan or under contract, whether they are not happy about not having as much game time as they wanted.

"We will see.

"I will have the conversations with those individuals."
