Metro services on the South Tyneside line have resumed after engineers dealt with an overhanging tree.
There were no services in operation on the stretch of the route between Hebburn and Chichester for around half an hour.
The section includes the Jarrow, Bede, Simonside and Tyne Dock stations.
The 900 bus replacement service was calling at or close to affected stations.
A Metro spokesman said: "Metro services have had to be suspended between Hebburn and Chichester due to a tree in danger of falling on to the overhead lines at Jarrow.
"Staff are on site and are removing the tree as quickly as possible. It appears the tree has been damaged by the current high winds in the local area this afternoon.
"Services were suspended at 2.45pm and two replacement buses are running in the affected area.
"We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused to customers."
