A COUNCILLOR in South Tyneside set out his stall at a market stall to help boost the funds for charity.
Coun Ernest Gibson took on the role as a market trader at South Shields Market to sell a range of items in aid of South Tyneside Mayor, Coun Fay Cunningham’s, annual fundraising effort.
This year’s Mayor’s Charity is raising funds for St Clare’s Hospice, Cancer Connections and the South Shields branch of the Mission to Seafarer’s.
It is also supporting the Kayaks (Kids and Young Adults Special Needs Klub), South Tyneside’s three sea cadet units and Arts4Wellbeing.
Coun Gibson said: “I’d just like to thank everyone who came down and bought something from the stall.
“A lot of the items were for sale for 50p, so to raise just under £100 on the day was great.
“The money raised has now been handed to the Mayor’s Charity which, this year, is supporting some fantastic charities within the borough.
“Having a stall in the Market Place is something I’d definitely be looking to do again in the future for the charity.”
