Seven new ways to try hummus on International Hummus Day

Not only is it Friday 13th and Top Gun Day - it's also International Hummus Day, would you believe it.

There seems to be as many ways to spell the Middle Eastern dip as there are to eat it.

The snack, made from chickpeas, tahini, olive oil, lemon juice and salt, is more commonly eaten with pitta bread, falafel, or, in the West, as a dip for your crisps and Crudités.

But here are some different ways to try its pulsey goodness on this, its special day:

1) Houmous pie

Yup, you read it right. This is a thing. The houmous here is a sauce for the vegetables, giving a wonderful effect. Give it a go: Pizza

You can use it as a sauce instead of the tomatoes, or even to replace the cheese on top. A good choice for the vegans, vegetarians, and those looking to shed fat and/or dairy from their diets

3) Mushroom and houmous soup

A recipe from our friends across the Atlantic, this will certainly raise eyebrows at the dinner table - but hopefully be met with approval.
