Shipping companies on lookout for new Merchant Navy cadets in South Tyneside

People in South Tyneside interested in a life at sea are being invited to an open day next week.

Representatives from the UK’s major shipping companies will be looking to find the next generation of Merchant Navy cadets in the borough.

A shipping day is to be held at South Shields Marine School, where information and advice will be given by shipping company training managers and the marine school’s own experts.

The event will run from 10am until 2pm on Saturday, April 28, and will include information on a career in the Merchant Navy.

South Shields Marine School principal Gary Hindmarch said: “Our shipping day delivers the best possible advice to people considering a career in the Merchant Navy.

South Shields Marine School, which is now part of the new Tyne Coast College, is based within South Tyneside College’s Westoe campus in South Shields.

Entry to the event is at the college’s main entrance on St Georges Avenue, with other parking off Grosvenor Road.
