STARGAZERS across the North East could be treated to one of the best meteor showers of the year.
Up to 120 shooting stars could streak across the night sky during the Geminid display, which will take place between Sunday and Tuesday, December 16.
The meteor shower is expected to peak on the night of Saturday, December 13, into the morning of Sunday, December 14.
Your best chance of seeing them is between 10pm and 3am. A predicted cold snap means there is a good chance of clear night skies.
A spokesman for the Met Office said: “To see the meteor shower, you don’t need a telescope, binoculars or any other equipment – all you need is your eyes.
“You don’t need to look in any particular direction as meteors appear randomly anywhere in the sky.”
