A fantastic shortlist of contenders in the Best of South Tyneside Awards can be revealed.

These are the unsung heroes, the community groups, and the outstanding candidates who are now one step away from lifting a crown in our annual competition.

But the judges agreed that every one of the nominated contenders - including those who didnt make it on to the shortlist - could have been worthy winners.

Now, all that awaits is the grand finals night where the winner in each category will be announced.

That big day arrives on June 25 and the Gazette will be there to follow all of the emotion, all the cheers and the tears of joy.

Follow the Gazette online and in paper for full coverage - and then make sure you buy the paper on July 1 for a supplement filled with photographs and reaction from all the winners.
