The St Clare’s Hospice Memory Walk is a 5k, family friendly, accessible walk, suitable for all ages and abilities.

It is set to take place on Saturday, April 28 and replaces the Park of Your Heart coastal walk.

The walk, which sets off at 4pm, will begin and end at the Jarrow hospice and will follow a local route past Primrose Nature Reserve, Jarrow Cross Playing Fields, West Park, and Monkton Dene Park.

There will be an opportunity for people to make a dedication to their loved one before the walk begins, and everyone will be invited back to the Primrose Terrace hospice at the end of the walk to view their dedication, which will be on display in the hospice garden, where walkers will be able to enjoy some refreshments.

Wendy McGauley, who is head of fundraising and communications at St Clare’s Hospice, said: “The St Clare’s Hospice Memory Walk is a new event in our calendar this year, replacing the Part of your Heart costal walk we held previously.

“We wanted to bring the walk closer to home, as the Hospice is very much part of the community here in Jarrow.

“We hope the event will give people the opportunity to come together and celebrate their family members and friends.

“The St Clare’s Hospice Memory Walk is open to everyone and we invite everyone to walk with us, whether your loved one was cared for at St Clare’s Hospice or not.”

Registration for the walk costs £15 per adult, with children under 16 and pets joining the walk for free.

There is no sponsorship target for the walk, but any additional money raised in sponsorship or donated to St Clare’s will enable the hospice to continue providing care and support to families in South Tyneside when they need it most.
