Diners can tuck into their meal 100ft above the ground when a sky high restaurant experience returns to the region next summer.

This year’s sell-out weekend saw guests sample dishes on a unique sky table which was hoisted in the air above Gateshead Quays’ Performance Square for the formerly-known Dine by the Tyne.

For 2017, the event, now named Newcastle in the Sky, is upping the ante with more flights, added days and a new location – which will see diners suspended above the city’s Stephenson Quarter.

Organiser Jacqui McKirdy said: “When we ran this year’s event, it was only planned as a one-off. But almost straight after it finished its run, we were getting a lot of emails asking when it was returning and how they could involved again next year.

“Even during the event we had people coming off the sky table asking about next year and it got me thinking let’s do it again.”

The 2017 edition of Newcastle in the Sky will see a few familiar faces returning and some new restaurants announced in the coming weeks. One returning chef is Chris Wood, Hawthorns executive chef who says he was more than happy to get on board.

He said: “Last year was brilliant, it was definitely one of the strangest more unique places I’ve cooked and it was really enjoyable. It was a no-brainer to return. It’s not every day you get asked to ply your trade 100ft in the air.”

A 60 day pre-sale for Newcastle in the Sky 2017 is to go on sale at www.eventsinthesky.co.uk from November 24th. Corporate tables and private bookings are also available from November 24th until February 1st 2017.
