Since March 2015, and with the help of Slimming World, she has lost almost three stone.

It has led to a confidence boost so great that next month she will start work as a Slimming World consultant.

She said: “I was on the go all the time at work, and found it difficult to avoid the cakes and biscuits, not to mention the vending machines. When I became a grandmother, I worried that I wouldn’t get the chance to enjoy time with my granddaughter and with other health problems in the mix, I knew I had to do something, and take care of myself.

“Being older and overweight affected my confidence and life. Although nervous, I knew as soon as I walked through the door of my Saturday group I’d made the right choice.”

Chris added: “With the help of the new friends I was making every week in group, I was shown how to make very easy swaps and changes to way I eat, cook and shop. I attend an Indian cookery class, and was able to adapt the ingredients to suit my new lifestyle and best of all add slimming world chips to the meal. Nothing was out of bounds - even the cakes, chocolates and biscuits which had once held me back.”

Chris is especially proud of buying her first jumpsuit after turning 60 in 2015, and has even joined dressmaking, quilting and knitting clubs. She will run her new group at All Saints Community Association, in Stanley Street, South Shields, from Thursday, October 12, at 7.30pm.
