Smoke seen over South Shields as crews called to abandoned car fires

Firefighters have been called to two cars alight in a South Shields street.

Emergency services were called on Friday afternoon (November 27) to reports of two cars alight in Mitre Place.

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service confirmed two fire crews from South Shields Community Fire Station attended the incident have extinguished the fire which involves two cars, which both appear to be abandoned.

Pictures show smoke could be seen from the River Tyne at around 1.25pm this afternoon.
