Take a look at our video for sneek peak of the Atyla and how much fun the tall ship experience is. To see the footage go to www.sunderlandecho.com

In the weeks to come, we’ll be sharing more video footage of the Atyla team on a crew parade and having fun with an impromptu singalong.

In the meantime, here’s what some trainees said who have already experienced sailing on the 100ft Spanish-built ship.

One called Bruno from Canada said: “Each activity was different, but was always a moment that brought peace, joy and improvement of yourself, bringing you in a good position to learn and feel secure. I liked it.”

Basil got to enjoy an Atlantic crossing last year and said the best part of it all was “exposure to so many great people from so many different places in the middle of the ocean.”

Another 2017 trainee said: “Sailing with Atyla was an incredible, unforgettable experience that broadened my world view!”

And yet another from last year’s season said: “The entire time on board was one big positive experience - the crew and trainees, coaching sessions, sail-trainings, night watches.”

Places are going fast for places on board the ship this year.

A spokesman said: “There are still spaces for all of our voyages, but some have only few remaining. Now it’s starting to sell quite good http://atylaship.com/voyages.

“Also the voyage arriving to Sunderland still has some available: http://atylaship.bigcartel.com/product/whitby-sunderland-tallshipsraces2018

“Whereas Sunderland to Esbjerg is pretty much sold out, because it’s the first leg of the races and promises a great festival and parades: http://atylaship.bigcartel.com/product/sunderland-esbjerg-tsr2018.”

The Tall Ships Races are coming to the city this July and they’re expected to bring 1.5 million people.
