Snow and sleet hit the region - and there's more on the way as April shivers to a close.

Despite the fact it's nearly May, most parts of the region saw heavy snow flurries this morning - though it didn't hang around for long.

And the bad news is that the Met Office is predicting wintry showers for the rest of the week.

Wintry showers will mostly die out this evening, although the odd one may persist around the coast overnight. With winds moderating and some clear spells developing, it will become frosty in many parts by morning with some patchy ice. Minimum Temperature -2C.

Tomorrow:

Starting cold and bright with the odd coastal shower. Through the day wintry showers will become more widespread, perhaps with some hail and thunder mixed in during the afternoon. Maximum Temperature 8C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Staying cold with further wintry showers or some longer spells of rain, with hill snow possible. Windy at times, but perhaps a little less cold by Saturday.
