The North East has enjoyed scorching weather across the weekend at a string of outdoor events.
The sunny conditions - with temperatures topping 26 degrees Celsius on Sunday - have graced Sunderland's Tall Ships Races, the latest of the South Tyneside Summer Festival concerts and Hartlepool United's pre-season football friendly with Sunderland.
But, with the schools starting to close and the great holiday escape beginning, will the unexpected hot summer continue?
Not according to weather experts at the Met Office.
A lull unfortunately arrives on Monday with sunny spells and highs of 20 degrees Celsius punctuated by rainfall and potentially even thunder storms.
The threat of showers remains throughout Tuesday and Wednesday before the drier conditions return on Thursday through to Saturday with local temperatures perhaps rising to highs of 23 degrees Celsius.
Conditions are expected to be cloudy, however, rather than as sunny as in recent days.
