Shields found things tricky to get going in the opening stages as TDSOB upset the home side by standing firm.

It wasn’t until the 21st minute that Shields opened the scoring through flanker Mark Tallintire after some strong carrying from the pack.

The score didn’t dent Hartlepool’s determination and they were well and truly in the game throughout the first half.

Jonathan Walker scored just before half time to put Shields into a two-score lead when Walker picked and went over from short range.

The second half was a different game with Shields really upping the tempo, scoring nine tries.

Matty Thornton was the first to score taking a neat pass to score from 10 metres out.

Martin Bengston broke the gain line and was stopped just short, but managed to reach out and over the line.

The away side put everything into their performance and really got under Shields’ skin with the home side finding it difficult to play.

However, the final 20 minutes saw Shields really put TDSOB to the sword scoring a further 30 points with the travelling side scoring once.

Brothers Jared and Conor Deacon both got on the score sheet, as did Ian Arkley and Daniel Whitelaw, with Bengston scoring another.
