An author’s dream of seeing her work in print has finally come true with the launch of her new book.
Karen Anthony first put pen to paper 15 years ago when she wrote children’s story Tommy’s Magical Night Adventures.
However, her work remained untouched until February when she decided the time was right to start having her work published.
Over the years, the 51-year-old, who is also an artist, has penned a number of short horror-based stories and poetry.
Now, she hopes her first published piece of work will bring a smile to a child’s face.
Miss Anthony from Portberry Way, South Shields, said: “I wrote the book about 15 years ago, but it wasn’t until February of this year when I decided to put all the finer details and the drawings to it.
When I saw it, I cried. I never thought I would see my work published.Karen Anthony
“It had always been at the back of my mind to do something with it, but for some reason it never happened.
“I’ve always enjoyed writing and drawing, but I suppose I never really pushed myself enough to get myself out there and show people what I can do.
“Then, one day I just decided it was time to do something about it.”
Karen, who works as a self-employed artist is working on a follow up to the book. She is also hoping to visit nurseries and primary schools across South Tyneside to carry out readings of her book.
Miss Anthony added: “I’m really pleased with how the book has turned out. I love it.
“The publisher has done a fantastic job. When I saw it I cried, as I never thought I would ever see my work published.
“I’m so excited about the future now.”
Tommy’s Magical Night Adventures, published by Consilience Media, centres on a six-year-old boy who is taken on a trip by his favourite toy.
A limited number of books are available to buy from Amazon priced £5.99.
