KINDHEARTED workers have clubbed together to make sure less fortunate South Tynesiders have a merry Christmas.

Staff and customers at Crown Bingo in Tyne Dock, South Shields, plus domestic workers at South Tyneside District Hospital, collected gifts to donate to Places for People who shared them between the women’s refuge and their parent and child project.

Maria Burrell, who works at both venues, came up with the idea, which was supported by bingo owners Rob and Dani Garrard. She said: “We just thought that some children, and families aren’t as fortunate, so we decided to collect bits and bobs which would go down well at Christmas time.

“We’re so grateful to everyone that got involved.”
