Walkers are being urged to put their best foot forward and help boost the funds of a cancer charity.
Cancer Connections is holding annual its Faith, Hope and Love 24 hour relay in aid of the service which supports those diagnosed with cancer and their families.
The fundraising has to continue to provide our servicesDeborah Roberts
The event will kick off on Saturday June 11 at the Bents Park in South Shields with its Braveheart lap – made up of cancer survivors - at 11am.
Every year, Cancer Connections has to raise £180,000 to ensure the service continues to run for those who need it.
Co-founder of the charity based in Harton Lane, South Shields, Deborah Roberts, said: “We have had a number of teams already registering to take part in the walk but there is still time for more teams to register.
“We have lots going on throughout the relay, including music, craft stalls, birds of prey, children’s characters and bouncy castles.
“There is always a great atmosphere at the relay with the event growing in numbers each and every year.”
The event, now in its fifth year, is one of the charity’s biggest fundraisers
Those staying for the duration are able to pitch a tent on the site with themed walks every hour.
The event is being supported by Cancer Connections patron Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwall.
Ms Roberts added: “Every year the people of South Tyneside are so supportive, and it is thanks to their generosity that year on year we are able to provide such a valuable service to those diagnosed with cancer and their families.
“However, the fundraising has to continue if we are able to keep going.
“Every year we have more people coming through our doors not to mention our return visitors which is why events like this one are so important for people to get involved in. “
