Emergency services were called to an early-morning car fire in South Shields which is being treated as suspected arson.

Crews from Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service were called to a car fire in Bedford Avenue, in South Shields, shortly before 1am this morning.

The fire is believed to have been started deliberately.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: “Emergency services attended and the fire was extinguished.

"Nobody was injured. Police are treating the incident as suspected arson.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact 101 quoting reference 43 050918 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
