South Shields commuters face double trouble from roadworks and Metro station closure

Commuters face twin potential for hold-ups in South Shields today due to new roadworks and a Metro station closure.

And the Metro line will be closed between South Shields and Chichester stations, for track and signalling upgrades for five weeks from today.

Both schemes are part of the preparation for the town’s new £21million transport interchange.

Motorists are advised to expect delays, as the Crossgate roadworks will require periods of traffic management.

And while a frequent replacement bus service, 900, will be provided for Metro passengers, they are advised to leave extra time for their journeys.

Metro services will continue to operate as usual from Chichester towards Newcastle and Sunderland.
