South Shields commuters face double trouble from roadworks and Metro station closure
Work to widen Crossgate in the town centre, to include a bus-only lane, begins today, and is expected to take about 18 weeks.
And the Metro line will be closed between South Shields and Chichester stations, for track and signalling upgrades for five weeks from today.

Motorists are advised to expect delays, as the Crossgate roadworks will require periods of traffic management.
And while a frequent replacement bus service, 900, will be provided for Metro passengers, they are advised to leave extra time for their journeys.
Metro services will continue to operate as usual from Chichester towards Newcastle and Sunderland.
