Family and friends came from far and wide as a South Tyneside couple marked 60 years of marriage.
Alberta and Dennis Slater, from Falstone Avenue, South Shields, celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary at the weekend with a party at the Sea Hotel, in Sea Road.
They were also joined by family in staying at the Little Haven Hotel, in River Drive, including their daughter Denise, 57, who travelled from her home in Tinoso, Spain. Also there were their other children Brenda, 54, Phillip, 52, and Ian, 50, and their two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs Slater’s brother James came from London, and sister Rosemary travelled from Corby, in the Midlands, to spend the happy occasion with the couple, while a host of other family and friends were present, including friends Karen and Tom Gore, from the Isle of Man.
Mrs Slater, 79, said: “We had an absolutely brilliant weekend, and it was great to have everyone together like that.
“Quite a few of those who were there live a big distance away, so we don’t see them very often.

“To be able to spend the weekend with them was fantastic, and we had an extremely nice time.”
Mrs Slater has very fond memories of the day she married Dennis, now 81.
She added: “We have so many happy memories, and have always been kind to each other and understood each other’s problems. Our wedding day is one of the happiest. It snowed on the day, and it was a perfect day.
“Since then, there have been so many other good times, including the birth of our children, and of course our grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They seemed to come along at just the right moment.”
