A father-to-be is calling on housing chiefs to pull their finger out and rectify the leak which, he says, is making the lives of him and his partner a misery.
Gavin Lovell moved into the flat in Western Approach, South Shields 18-months ago.
Since then, he says there has been ongoing problem with damp and a leaking ceiling in the bathroom of the property.
But despite council workers coming out and taking a look and carrying out some repairs - the problem has not been rectified.
Mr Lovell said: “We can’t do nothing with our bathroom as the water is coming through the ceiling from the upstairs flat.
“And it’s not clean water either. My partner is pregnant and is due to give birth anyday now and she is having to bathe in this bathroom.
“There’s a health and hygiene risk here, due to the dirty water. I’m a qualified joiner and I’ve given them a list of repairs that need to be carried out. We have people come out and then nothing happens, or they do some work but the problem doesn’t get fixed - it’s just going on and on.
“It is really affecting us both now - especially with the baby on the way.”
A spokesperson for South Tyneside Homes said: “We were made aware of a leak at the property and have already completed some repairs however, this has not resolved the problem.
“Unfortunately we understand that further work is required at both properties.
“Further appointments have been arranged so that we can find a resolution. We will remain in contact with both parties to ensure that the problem is rectified.”
