The Mariners – who won four trophies last season – took home the FA Vase Cup back in May.

About 15,000 supporters followed Shields to Wembley, while an average of more than 1,200 watched home games last season.

Now the club has lent its support to the annual Gazette awards which look to honour outstanding residents in the borough.

South Shields FC Operations Director Rachel Sarginson said the side was delighted to sponsor the awards this year.

“The club is delighted to be supporting the Best of South Tyneside Awards,” she said.

“The awards honour some of the most inspirational people in the borough, so to be able to support this event is our pleasure.

“We really look forward to attending the ceremony and meeting all of the nominees.”

Sponsoring the overall Best of South Tyneside Awards this year is electronics giant Siemens as the headline sponsor, along with a host of category sponsors including, Port of Tyne, Harlow Print, Northumbrian Water, and the Customs House.
