South Shields FC pleadges support for hospice's '˜Jolly Jumper Day'

A number of organisations have already signed up to help raise awareness for St Clare’s Hospice Jolly Jumper Day campaign.

The hospice, based in Primrose Terrace, Jarrow, has had a host of companies on board for the initiative including The Customs House, Newcastle Building Society, Barclays Bank and even South Shields FC.

Jolly Jumper Day is a fun yuletide event where schools and companies are asked to what wear their best Christmas jumpers in exchange for a £1 donation per person.

The hospice’s chosen date for this year’s event is Friday, December 9, but organisers say it is entirely flexible for companies and organisations to attempt the event to a day of their choosing.

Alisha Henry, sponsorship manager at South Shields FC, said: “We were pleased to take part in the launch of this campaign to help raise awareness of the charity’s Jolly Jumper Day.”

Caroline Breheny, fundraiser at St Clare’s Hospice, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the amount of support we have already received from local businesses, organisations and schools throughout the borough and wider afield.

“It is a fun campaign in the run up to Christmas and we hope to get even more people to participate in our Jolly Jumper Day to raise the much needed funds for our Hospice.”

Cash raised will be donated to the hospice, which provides care and support for people with life limiting illnesses.

St Clare’s has an eight-bed in-patient facility which offers not only end of life care but also a respite service, day centre unit and a range of complementary therapies.
