Three South Tyneside martial arts enthusiasts are preparing to take on the best in the world in Las Vegas.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fighters Scott Ramsay, Kevin Cunningham and Shaun Scott have been in training ahead of jetting out to America next month.
The trio will take on some of the best competitors in the World Master Brazilian Jiu Jitsu championships.
The event takes place over two days on September 25 and 26 at the Cashman Center in Las Vegas.
The trip comes after Kevin brought home four golds competing in the French Open Brazilian Jiu Jitsu event. Scott, who owns South Shields Fight Factory, where all three train, said: “This tournament is the biggest in the world. It will have some of the best fighters in the world competing so the level will be quite high.
“It’s an event which is on the wish list of any serious Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competitor, so to have three of us from the club going to not only represent the club but also South Shields is amazing.”
While, Kevin and Shaun have competed in the event before, it will be the first time for Scott, a BJJ instructor.
Scott added: “Due to injuries and work commitments, I haven’t been able to compete lately. But I’m back on form now and looking forward to competing in Las Vegas.”
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art, combat sport, and a self-defence system that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. South Shields Fight Factory offers sessions in the martial art form for adults, women only and children.
