A charity which is helping to put food on the tables of struggling South Tyneside families has received a boost to its funds.

Hospitality and Hope, based in Hampden Street, South Shields, wase overwhelmed when it received a cheque for £1,385 from the elderly people’s organisation U3A.

The cash was raised through a variety of fund-raising events held throughout the year.

Amelia Luffrum, from Hope and Hospitality, said: “It really is amazing what the U3A have done for us.

“Christmas is a really busy time for us and we have to put more food parcels together, so this money will help make things a little easier for us.”

The cheque was presented during a presentation evening held at Westoe Rugby Club.
