A fun run for young people is set to return to the seafront in a bid to get South Tyneside’s youth moving.
Running enthusiast Luke Adams first launched the event last year as part of his Run, Eat, Sleep programme.
It saw dozens of young people and their families take part in the monthly 1.5mile run along the South Shields coastline.
Now, as he gets set to bring the event back for 2017, Luke and the rest of his team are hopeful it will prove to be just as successful again this year.
Mr Adams said: “Last year was the first time we’d run the event and we had fantastic support from the parents and the running community.
“The first run we had a few families and children, then month by month more and more people were taking part.
Everyone seemed to love it and the feedback is the parents enjoyed being able to take part with their kids.Luke Adams
“Everyone seemed to love it and the feedback is the parents enjoyed being able to take part with their kids.
“It has been really good for all ages and a lot of people have gone on to make new friends, it’s a real friendly family atmosphere.”
The aim of the fun run is to encourage more young people to dig out their trainers and get active.
The event features six runs starting on Saturday, then held once a month through until September.
Those taking part in all six events receive a medal at the end of the series.
The timed run, guided by marshalls who will be positioned along the route, is open to all young people aged between eight and 16. Under eights can also take part but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Mr Adams added: “The children don’t need to be able to run the whole way.
“We understand that children like to take little rests so a mixture of walking, jogging and running is recommended. It’s all about having fun.”
Young people who would like to take part in the run are asked to register ahead of the event.
Individual run entry costs £4, to take part in all six event entry costs £24 - accompanying parents are free.
All runs start at 10.15am at South Shields seafront promenade. Registration is at Minchellas at 9.30am.
