The girls were in the city on Thursday night for the first of three sell-out shows of their Get Weird tour at the Metro Radio Arena.

Before the gig kicked off, Perrie sent out a video on her Snapchat account of herself and bandmate Jesy Nelson singing “Toon, Toon, Black and White Army” in an apparent bid to back the team for victory in the clash against rivals Sunderland.

The girls also joked on stage at their gig about their male dancers being dressed in black and white stripes and about the dads in the audience perking up at the mention of the derby.

As they performed with their X Factor-winning group, which also stars Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Jade and Perrie spoke of their pride for their home region, with Perrie, 22, telling the crowd she was confident they’d be the loudest on the tour.
