South Shields man appears in London Court over £4million drugs haul


A 27-year-old man from South Shields is one of six people who have appeared in a London court in connection with a £4m drugs seizure.

Daniel Thompson, from Reubens Avenue in Whiteleas was charged by police after officers seized 100 kilos of cannabis.

He alongside five others appeared before Wimbeldon Magistrates Court,today, accused of conspiring to supply illegal drugs worth around £4m, a court heard.

Others included Neil Stuart, also known as Neil Acourt, 40, of Eltham,Jack Vose, 62, of Backworth, Newcastle, James Botton, 44, of Greenwich, south-east London.

Lee Birks, 54, of Orpington, south-east London, and Paul Beavers, 48, also of Backworth, Newcastle, appeared at a second hearing directly afterwards and all six are charged with conspiracy to supply controlled class B drugs between January 1, 2014 and February 1, 2016.

Chairman of the bench Jim Peters remanded all six in custody until their next appearance at Kingston Crown Court on March 2.

Meanwhile, a 19-year-old woman and two men, aged 23 and 27, arrested in South Shields, have been bailed to a date in early March.

A 41-year-old man arrested at an address in Bromley, south east London has also been bailed to a date in March.
