A South Tyneside MP is swapping party politics for pounding pavements – to go the extra mile for a vital
cause in the Great North Run.

South Shields MP Emma Lewell-Buck will be lacing up her running boots alongside husband Simon in aid of carers’ charity Just-ICE (Independent Carers Enterprise) at the world-famous half marathon on September 13.

Shields does an amazing job hosting the finale of the Great North Run every year, and it is an amzing experience having such grest supporters cheering you on.

Mrs Lewell-Buck is already patron of the charity, based at St Simon’s Community Project, Wenlock Road, South Shields, which provides support to people caring for loved ones suffering from mental health problems.

But she is going a step further in her support – by getting on the start-line for the 13-mile route from Newcastle to South Shields to earn
precious pounds for the service.

The charity helps carers look after not only those they care for, but their own wellbeing as well.

Just-ICE offers individual and group support, helps carers navigate and access services, and provide information and educational activities.

Mrs Lewell-Buck said: “I’m so proud to have great charities like Just-ICE in my constituency, and I want to do everything I can to help them go from strength to strength. That’s why I will be donating every penny I raise as part of the Great North Run to this fantastic organisation.

“Shields does an amazing job hosting the finale of the Great North Run every year, and it’s an amazing experience having such great supporters cheering you on.

“With so many local people taking part and supporting great causes, it shows our town at its very best.”

The Labour politician and her husband are making it a double after taking part in the Great North Run for the first time last year to raise funds for Arts4Wellbeing.

The Great North Run was set up in 1981 and has seen more than one million entrants take part since then.
