A nursery in South Tyneside has scored top marks following an inspection by education watchdogs.

STANLEY’s at Marine Park, South Shields, has been rated as ‘outstanding’ in all areas by Ofsted inspectors.

The nursery described as an “incredibly friendly nursery at the heart of the community” is managed by South Tyneside Council.

A report by inspectors said: “Children are incredibly confident and motivated to learn. Staff are highly perceptive and offer excellent support to ensure all children become highly engaged in their learning.

“Staff have an excellent understanding of where children are in their learning and what children need to learn next.”

Inspectors also praised its links with the local school and described its leadership as “inspirational.”

Shirley Murray’s son Joseph has been attending the nursery for just over a year.

His mum said: “Joseph has come on leaps and bounds and staff have really played to his strengths.

“This nursery is beyond ‘outstanding,’ it should be rated as “amazingly outstanding”. If it could have any more stars, this nursery would have them all.”

Coun Joan Atkinson, lead member for children, young people and families, said: “This is fantastic news and demonstrates our core commitment to give every child in the borough the very best start in life is continuing to pay dividends.

“I would like to pay tribute to the excellent staff, the parents and carers and the children who attend this nursery. By working in partnership we are able to provide an unrivalled learning experience for these youngsters.”
