AN autism charity is set to receive a boost thanks to a South Shields Thai restaurant.

Orangegrass, in Mount Terrace, South Shields, will be holding a fundraising event on Sunday, June 7, from 6pm to 11pm, with all proceeds going to the North East Autism Society.

We’ve worked with the North East Autism Society numerous times over the years and I have seen first-hand how the funds help people in the region through my daughter, Jasmine.

It is a cause that is close to Orangegrass owner Titu Akhtar’s heart.

He said: “We’ve worked with the North East Autism Society numerous times over the years and I have seen first-hand how the funds help people in the region through my daughter, Jasmine.

“We can’t wait for the night. It’s a sell-out every year and has been so popular we have decided to often repeat it, raising double the money for this fantastic charity.”

Hebburn singer Annabel Pattinson, a DJ, and Thai dancers will be performing at the event, while there will also be a buffet and a raffle with prizes including free meals, wine and gift vouchers.

The event will coincide with the North East Autism Society’s 35th anniversary

Sophie Clarke, events fundraiser for the charity, said: “We are so grateful to Titu for organising this charity evening on our behalf.

“The money raised will help fund our Family Development Services, which includes toddler groups, parent workshops, family support groups, adult social groups and our trampolining club.

“These services can only continue through the generosity of organisations and individuals alike.”

Tickets cost £20 each or £30 for a pair, and can be bought at Orangegrass, by email at admin@orangegrass.biz, or by calling 455 8555.
