South Shields seagull rescued by firefighters

Crews from two fire stations have rescued a seagull trapped on top of a three-storey building in South Shields town centre.

The stricken bird had become entangled in netting on the roof of a building in Keppel street on Friday.

Four firefighters from South Shields and an aerial ladder platform from Fulwell attended the incident after being called by a member of the public at 5.56pm.

The platform was used to gain access to the roof and crews untangled and rescued the bird before handing it over to the RSPCA for treatment.
