A new and improved bus service is on offer for passengers in South Shields.

Following requests from customers, Stagecoach North East has stepped up the frequency of one of its most popular bus routes.

After listening to the needs of our customers, we are delighted to bring these additional bus services and offer three buses an hour instead of two.

Starting on Monday, the X34 service – which links South Tyneside to Newcastle – will run every 20 minutes instead of every 30.

As part of the improvements, the bus operator has also introduced an earlier morning bus service to Newcastle, leaving from Horsley Hill Square at 6.35am and arriving in the city at 7.26am.

David Parker, commercial manager for Stagecoach North East, said: “After listening to the needs of our customers, we are delighted to bring these additional bus services, and offer three buses an hour instead of two.

“Our new ‘more more more’ branding which is soon to feature on the X34 buses, demonstrates our commitment to delivering more choice, more value for money and more opportunities to travel, business or pleasure.”

During the recent National Customer Service Week, Stagecoach North East’s South Shields depot promoted the enhanced X34 bus service at two public events at the Harton Nook shopping centre, where staff handed out the new bus timetables, spoke with customers and provided information.

Shoppers were also reminded about the X34 Sunday shopper buses, the special pre-Christmas bus services, which run every half hour during the day from Sunday, November 15 to December 20.
