Building work at a new Starbucks drive-through is causing a stir for coffee lovers in South Tyneside.
The franchise is set to open in December at a former car wash next to the Esso petrol station in Newcastle Road, Simonside, South Shields.
The work is slightly behind schedule. The coffee shop, which is owned by Euro Garages, was originally due to open this month.
However, bosses have confirmed that the borough’s Starbucks fans will indeed be able to enjoy the company’s famous winter drink – the pumpkin spiced latte – this winter.
Workers have been at the site for the last few weeks and steel girders can now be seen going up.
When complete the new drive-through is set to create between 16 to 20 full-time and part-time jobs at the world-famous company.
A spokesman for Euro Garages said: “We are planning to open the store this early December, work is going well.
“We look forward to investing in Simonside service station in South Shields and introducing a Starbucks drive-through.”
The new building will have space for 21 parking spaces outside.
Though the cafe is aimed primarily at motorists, it will also serve workers at nearby sites.
The building will be single-storey with a mixture of pitched roofs, and there will be seats at the front so customers can sit outside.
