Shakespeare fans can see one of the Bard’s famous plays beamed live from London to South Shields.

As You Like It is being staged at the National Theatre, in the capital, for the first time in more than 30 years.

The show, which stars Rosalie Craig as Rosalind, will be broadcast live at the Customs House in Mill Dam, South Shields, on Thursday.

The play, by William Shakespeare, sees Rosalind and her cousin Celia leave their lives in the court behind and journey into the Forest of Arden after her father, the Duke, is banished and in exile.

There, released from convention, Rosalind experiences the liberating rush of transformation. Disguising herself as a boy, she embraces a different way of living and falls spectacularly in love.

Tickets to see the 7pm show at the cinema cost £15.50 with a £14.50 concession. To book, go to or call 0191 454 1234.
