South Shields venue’s sporting memorabilia set to go up for auction

Sporting memorabilia which has adorned the walls of a South Tyneside events and party venue is to be auctioned off.

For the past eight years shirts signed by a range of sporting heroes have been on display at the Hedworth Hall.

There is a quite a collection of sporting memorbilia of some of the world’s greatest legends up for auction.

Some of those featured have taken part in sporting talks at the venue, owned by Tony Singh, in Dean Road, South Shields.

However, as management gear up for an overhaul of the bar area within the building in the New Year, they are putting up the items for auction.

Amongst the items is a framed shirt of Maradona, Pele, Gordon Banks, Ronaldo, Messi along with local legends like Alan Shearer and Niall Quinn.

Memorabilia of boxing legends including Nigel Benn, Ricky Hatton, Frank Bruno, Sugar Ray Leonard will also be up for sale, and a signed print from the movie icon legend Al Pacino.

Manager of the Hedworth Hall, Carl Mowatt, said: “The Hedworth Hall has amassed quite a collection of sporting memorabilia over the years with some of the world’s greatest legends.

“But we are now looking ahead to the future with the forthcoming refurbishment of a part of the building in the New Year.

“A lot of people of commented about the memorabilia.

“This is the perfect opportunity for football and boxing fans to get their hands on a piece of sporting history.”

An auction, led by Brian Houshby, will take place on Thursday, December 17.

Each piece of memorabilia has an allocated lot number with a reserve price and are available to view ahead of the auction.
