The four took on gardening duties alongside community group Friends of West Park Jarrow to keep the park – which was donated to the people of the town in 1876 – looking its best.

“It’s a great feeling to be given the chance to give back to the area,” Dawn said.

“They’ve taken us to their hearts since our relocation and now it’s our turn to give something back.

“We needed a helping hand from the Friends of the Park though, as we are far from experiences gardeners, but I’m sure we know a weed from a flower though, so we should, hopefully, be okay.”

West Park has almost 140 years’ of history, the land having been donated by Gateshead’s Liberal MP Sir Walter James and his wife Lady Northbourne James, in 1876.

Among other features, the park has a bandstand, a children’s play area and bowling greens.
