Susan Flannagan took the plunge into the world of self-employment when she bought the South Shields and East Gateshead ARTventurers franchise.

The move followed a restructure in her old job. This, she said, gave her the push she needed – and it is a decision the grandmother of four says she has not regretted as she gets set to expand her business.

A host of celebratory sessions were also held at her classes in South Shields to say thank you to customers who have helped make her creative dream a success.

ARTventurers runs creative art classes for babies, toddlers and children.

Susan who was introduced to the classes after taking her granddaughter Abigail along to a weekly class in Sunderland, said: “The classes are so fun and colourful and it’s all about helping children to learn and develop through art and creative play. I decided to take the plunge and launch my own ARTventurers classes in South Shields and haven’t looked back since.

“It’s been a hectic year but the classes that I launched have proved incredibly popular and I just love going to work every day and spending time creating, painting, exploring, singing and dancing with lots of gorgeous babies and children – and their grown ups too.

“Most parents would love to do this kind of activity at home but are put off by the thought of the mess and clearing up. I’ve seen for myself how much everyone enjoys the activities, and the beauty of coming to one of my classes is they can all have lots of creative fun and I will clear the mess.”

Weekly classes, holiday workshops, birthday parties and community events already take place in South Shields and Susan is now looking forward to expanding her sessions into Jarrow and Hebburn.

She added: “The opportunity came up recently to expand my business into Jarrow and Hebburn and I’m looking forward to launching some more ARTventurers classes in the area very soon.”

ARTventurers is celebrating becoming members of the Childrens Activity Association which is set up to help provide parents with peace of mind when choosing an activity or class for their baby or child.
