South Tyneside hospice work recognised at civic reception

Representatives from St Clare’s Hospice were invited to South Shields Town Hall where they met the Mayor, Coun Ken Stephenson and Mayoress, Cathy Stephenson.

The Jarrow-based hospice is one of the charities that the mayor has chosen to support during his year of office.

Coun Stephenson said: “It is such a worthy cause which holds a big place in the hearts of so many people in South Tyneside for the invaluable support it has given the local community for more than 30 years.

“The dedicated staff and volunteer teams really do make a huge difference to people’s lives – to those who rely on their services as well as their families and carers.”

The mayor recently re-opened the newly refurbished hospice at a community day.

Avril Robinson, chief executive at the hospice, said: “St Clare’s Hospice relies on the support of over 150 volunteers across all of our hospice functions to enable us to provide care and support to the community of South Tyneside.

“We wouldn’t be able to do what we do without them.

“Being able to recognise our volunteers’ achievements in this way is truly wonderful and we’d like to thank the Mayor and Mayoress for hosting the reception evening and for their continued support.”
