A man who kissed a teenage girl after flirting with her online has been ordered to sign on the sex offender register.
Magistrates in South Tyneside heard Dale Underwood, of Lynton Avenue, Jarrow, was ‘flattered’ by the attention he received from the girl.
Underwood, 27, admitted sexual touching of a girl under 16 years.
Paul Anderson, prosecuting, said: “He kissed her on the lips although he told her he meant to kiss her on the neck.
“The girl’s parents became aware of what had happened and called the police. Underwood was arrested and admitted what he had done.”
“He admitted it was a stupid thing to do. He knew it was wrong, but he couldn’t say why he did it. He conceded he was flattered by her attention, and knew how old she was.”
Denise Aubrey, defending, said: “He is essentially a shy young man who has had very little in the way of relationships with the opposite sex. He is adamant he would not have let this incident proceed any further.
“This has already had a big impact on his life, and it will continue to do so.
“He has been threatened and intimidated. There will be big consequences in future for his employment and general prospects in life.
“Any offence of this nature is serious, but this one does fall at the lowest end of seriousness.”
The magistrates adjourned passing sentence for preparation of a report from the probation service.
Underwood was told he must register as a sex offender for a length of time which will be determined when he is sentenced on November 1.
