A new civic award is being launched in South Tyneside to recognise the hard work and dedication of those making a positive difference in their communities.
The Mayor of South Tyneside, Councillor Alan Smith has announced that a Mayor’s Civic Award will be given each year to an individual or a group which has made an outstanding contribution to the borough.
The award will not only honour local people and organisations that go the extra mile for others, but also give the council an opportunity to show an official appreciation for their achievements and efforts on behalf of the people of South Tyneside.
The Mayor said: “South Tyneside Council has a proud history of maintaining tradition and promoting civic pride amongst our diverse communities.
“Therefore it is with great pride that I am able to launch a new aspect of our civic programme, which will place on a formal footing, our gratitude for the service of those who make a difference to the lives of others.
“The award will celebrate our civic pride for those whom the council serves and who in turn, serve others.”
The receiver of the inaugural Mayor’s Civic Award will be announced shortly and a formal presentation will be made before the end of the current mayoral year next month.
Future Mayor’s Civic Awards will be chosen annually by the sitting Mayor of South Tyneside.
