A couple have taken over a South Tyneside bar where they first fell in love.
Ben Wild and Samantha Saul are the new owners of the Can Can Bar in South Shields and have high hopes for a sweet taste of success.
The pair, who met when the bar was called Vogue, will tie the knot next month and say buying the bar is their wedding present to each other.
Ben, 37, has worked at the bar for many years and said when the opportunity to take it over came up, he jumped at it.
One of the first changes the pair are planning is launching a new range of cocktails, based on the flavours of old-fashioned sweets.
A mixologist has been brought in to create the flavours, which will include foam banana, parma violets, fruit salads and drumstick lollies.
We are both hugely excited about the barBen Wild
Ben and Samantha, 27, who both now live in South Shields, met when Ben was a DJ in the Ocean Road bar, when it was called Vogue, and Samantha was enjoying a night out with friends.
The pair dated for a while before Ben headed off to a job abroad, however, when he returned their romance was rekindled.
The DJ said: “We are both hugely excited about the bar, it is something we really wanted to do if given the opportunity.
“So, when the opportunity came up it was a no-brainer really, we absolutely jumped at the chance.”
Ben, who has been working in the bar for many years, said he could see where if small changes were made it could be even more vibrant than it is now.
He said: “Being the DJ I could see the little bits and pieces that needed doing. We have taken over the place as a sort of wedding present to each other, we both love the place so much.
“I want to make it the number one cocktail bar in South Shields and we are launching our brand new range of drinks.”
As well as the confectionary-flavoured cocktails, the Can Can Bar will also be selling a larger range of wines.
