South Tyneside youngsters jump for joy in charity skip

Charitable youngsters at Laygate Community School, in Laygate Lane, South Shields, took part in the challenge in the hope of raising as much as possible for the charity.

The charity donated the skipping ropes used on the day to the school in a bid to encourage children to jump into a healthy lifestyle.

During the day pupils took part in a skipping circuit trying out various skipping exercises for a few minutes at a time.

Hosted by the year four classes, around 220 pupils took part in the event and enjoyed snacks donated by the The Education Network, which is based in Newcastle and sponsored the challenge.

Head of PE at the school, Justine Black, organised the event which saw the whole school take part in various skipping activities.

She said the school was really pleased with the amount that was raised from the event and more money is still coming in from sponsorships.
She said: “We are pushing sport and the importance of living a healthier lifestyle at the school, so this event was a great event to get the children in to it and raise money for charity.

“The British Heart Foundation has also said it will give us a percentage of the money raised through the children’s sponsorship which will go back into the community and the school.”
