Perez netted twice in a 4-0 win to stake his claim for a place in Rafa Benitez's starting XI against Fulham at Craven Cottage on August 5.

Daryl Janmaat and Jonjo Shelvey also found the net at the Daknamstadion in the club's third pre-season friendly, while substitute Jesus Gamez was shown a red card late in the game.

Newcastle, captained by Jamaal Lascelles, took the lead in the 13th minute.

Perez – who spoke about his future this week – skipped forward and set free Rolando Aarons on the right wing.

The forward continued his run towards goal and met Aarons' low cross at the near post.

Janmaat headed a Jack Colback free-kick home in the 26th minute before Perez scored the goal of the afternoon.

Colback launched the ball forward for Dwight Gayle, who flicked the ball backwards to Perez. The 23-year-old beat Davino Verhulst with a fine first-time shot.

United manager Benitez sent on Gamez, Jonjo Shelvey and Aleksandar Mitrovic for the second half.

And Shelvey scored a fourth goal with a deflected shot.

Gamez and Marko Miric were both shown red cards for tangling after the Newcastle defender was fouled.

Benitez was without Matt Ritchie (groin), while new signing Grant Hanley didn't travel to Belgium.
