Steve McClaren set to get his wish at Newcastle as deadline edges closer

However, the Gazette understands a summer move is now more likely for Tiote, who was recalled to United's starting XI earlier this month.

United head coach Steve McClaren does not want Tiote to leave midway through the season.

McClaren worked with Tiote earlier in his career at FC Twente.
